Film „Unwanted daughters of Montenegro“ by Iva Parađanin was screened on Saturday at the 9th Underhill Festival within the program In Focus.

After the film executive director of WRC, Maja Raičević talked with Iva Parađanin.

Iva explained that she got the idea for the movie after campaign “Unwanted” by Women’s Rights Center and agency McCann was launched, and that she received support in contacting people from Svetlana Slavujević, journalist who did a research paper regarding the problem of sex selective abortions.

Through discussion with young, educated Montenegrin women and activists the film gave an interesting perspective of attitudes towards women in Montenegrin society.

Last night in the library “Radosav Ljumović” with the screening of “Whitney: Can I Be Me” by Nick Broomfield and Rudi Dolezal we opened the program In Focus organized third year in a row within the UnderhillFest. Opening words were given by the artistic director of UnderhillFest Vuk Perović and Tanja Markuš, coordinator of the program for culture and arts at Women’s Rights Center. After the film Ana Jaredić, WRC’s psychologist and Miro Minić, PR of UnderhillFest held a panel discussion on the topic of family and partner violence. Looking back at the film and life of world known pop diva Whitney Houston, Ana Jaredić gave explanations on the problematics of partner violence, its causes, dynamics and consequences on the victim. Through very dynamic interaction with the audience, many stereotypes were demystified which follow this phenomenon.

Executive director of WRC, Maja Raičević stated at the press conference that UnderhillFest helps us deal with topics that have little attention which is exactly women’s creativity”.

Through program In Focus we always strive to make current the topics not only important for women but for the whole society as well, and about which female authors talk a lot about.
